NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 11, 2014 – Thomas junior Taylor Bergeron (Lyman, Maine) scored 2:07 into overtime to lift the visiting Terriers past Colby-Sawyer, 3-2 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey match on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas improves to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in the NAC, while the Chargers drop to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Terriers host Castleton next Saturday, while Colby-Sawyer will host Johnson & Wales tomorrow at noon.
The visitors had a 2-0 lead at halftime with goals from sophomores Erica Blake (Norridgewock, Maine) and Sonja Morse (South China, Maine). Thomas held a 9-0 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in penalty corners.
The script was flipped in the second half as Colby-Sawyer scored twice to send the match into overtime.
Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) scored on a feed from junior
Becca Hashem (Webster, N.H.) less than three minutes into the frame to cut the deficit to 2-1. Then with less than three minutes to play in the half,
Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) notched her team leading sixth goal on an assist from
Rebecca Perley (Sandown, N.H.). The Chargers outshot Thomas 9-1 and had a 5-1 edge in penalty corners in the second stanza.
Thomas received the game-winner 2:07 into overtime on Taylor Bergeron's fifth goal of the season.
Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine) made a pair of saves in the win for Thomas.
Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) had six stops for Colby-Sawyer.
