NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 4, 2014 – Colby-Sawyer College hosted a quad match featuring teams from the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) on Saturday at the Hogan Sports Center. Colby-Sawyer, along with Castleton, Husson, and Maine Maritime each played a pair of matches.
Colby-Sawyer won both of its matches, 3-0 over Husson and Maine Maritime. The Chargers improve to 14-5 overall and 2-0 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer will play at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday. Maine Maritime split a pair of matches falling to Colby-Sawyer and defeating Castleton, 3-0. The Mariners go to 7-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Maine Maritime travels to St. Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday. Castleton split a pair of matches as well with a 3-1 win over Husson and a 3-0 loss to Maine Maritime. The Spartans go to 5-10 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. Castleton plays a tri-match next Saturday at Gordon. Husson dropped both of its matches today falling 3-1 to Castleton and 3-0 to Colby-Sawyer. The Eagles fall to 5-18 overall and 0-2 in the NAC. Husson plays at Maine-Machias on Tuesday.
Colby-Sawyer 3, Husson 0 – 25-13, 25-20, 25-8The Chargers were led by a 10-kill effort from senior
Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.). She hit .368 and added seven digs. Junior
Kelsey Sullivan (Laconia, N.H.) hit .400 for six kills. Junior setter
Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) collected 29 assists and nine digs. Freshman
Lexi Strong (Somersworth, N.H.) had a match best 13 digs.
Rashell Saucier (Washburn, Maine) led Husson with five kills. Junior Emma Plouffe (Frankfort, N.Y.) hit .444 and had four kills. Freshman Nia Arranga (San Jose, Calif.) recorded three kills, four digs and a pair of aces.
Maine Maritime 3, Castleton 0 – 25-19, 25-21, 25-23The Mariners received a pair of strong offensive efforts at the net to handle Castleton, 3-0. Senior Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) had 13 kills, while sophomore Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) collected 12. Robertson added four aces and a pair of blocks, while O'Neal had a double-double with 11 digs.
Castleton was led by sophomore Brittany Brayman (Hartford, N.Y.). She had team-highs of seven kills and 10 digs.
Colby-Sawyer 3, Maine Maritime 0 – 25-9, 25- 15, 25-19The Chargers hit .348 and held the Mariners to .057 hitting in the second 3-0 victory of the afternoon. Senior
Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) recorded a match best 13 kills on .435 hitting, while sophomore
Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) hit .375 with 11 kills.
Kelsey Sullivan (Laconia, N.H.) and
Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) added six kills apiece.
Sophomore Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) had team-highs of nine kills and 12 digs for Maine Maritime. Senior Betsy Trenckmann (La Veta, Colo.) just missed a double-double with 18 assists and nine digs.
Castleton 3, Husson 1 – 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17Junior setter Michaela Babineau (Fitchburg, Mass.) turned in a double-double for Castleton with 17 assists and 16 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Cassidy Tedeschi (Pascoag, R.I.) and senior middle Kaylee Pratt (Hampton, N.Y.) had eight kills apiece. Junior Shelby Smith (Chelmsford, Mass.) added eight assists, eight digs and a match best three aces.
Husson was led by a seven-kill effort from senior middle Alexandra deHertogh (Cumberland, R.I.). She added three solo blocks and three block assists. Junior Ryan Hood (Princeton, Maine) tallied 10 assists and eight digs for the Eagles.
