NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 4, 2014 – Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Lizzie Jorgensen (Manchester, Vt.) scored the game's lone goal in the 28th minute to lift the Chargers past Castleton, 1-0 Saturday afternoon on a wet Kelsey Field.
Last time these two teams met was in the NAC Championship last November with Colby-Sawyer winning by the same 1-0 score.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-5-1 overall and sits atop the NAC standings with a 3-0 record. The Chargers will step out of conference play with a road match at Plymouth on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Castleton evens its overall record at 6-6 and suffers its first conference loss to fall to 3-1. The Spartans travel to Johnson St. next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Badgers.
The lone goal came at 27:53 when senior
Sarah Little (Scarborough, Maine) sent a ball to Jorgensen who split a pair of defenders in the middle of the field. Jorgensen then fired a shot that was out of reach above the Castleton keeper.
Both teams fought hard for the remainder of the game on the slick grass surface, but neither could muster much offense.
Colby-Sawyer keeper
Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made five stops in the clean sheet. Castleton goalie Jessica Binkowski (Goshen, Conn.) had three saves for the Spartans.
