Women's Soccer Seniors Shine in 3-0 Win over Lyndon

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 18, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team won its sixth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Lyndon State in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-5-1 overall and 6-0 in the NAC. The Chargers host Johnson State tomorrow at noon. Lyndon drops to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Hornets play at New England College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

The day was supposed to feature a tribute to the Colby-Sawyer seniors, but Mother Nature had other ideas and forced the ceremony to be moved to tomorrow. Nevertheless, the Charger seniors shined in a rain filled match to help move the team to 6-0 in the conference.

Senior Lindsey McCurry (Vernon, Conn.) got the home team on the board at 14:52 when she put back a failed clear attempt by the Lyndon back line. For McCurry, the goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Senior Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) doubled the Chargers' lead at 24:45. Sophomore Rachel Quaye (Westminster, Mass.) was dribbling along the end line when she fed the ball back to Upham who deposited her fourth goal of the season.

A Colby-Sawyer senior duo connected on the third goal of the game in the 62nd second. Sarah Little (Scarborough, Maine) found Heather Faasse (Jefferson, N.J.) who finished a chance just under the crossbar for her first goal of the season.

After Colby-Sawyer's third goal, the skies opened up and rain fell in sheets for most of the remainder of the game making it difficult for either team to score.

Colby-Sawyer senior Heather Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) aided the back line in keeping the clean sheet and later helped apply pressure up front for the offense.

Junior goalie Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) stopped the only two shots she faced on the way to her sixth clean sheet of the season. Lyndon keeper Johanna Sargent (Randolph, Vt.) had five saves in the loss.

The Chargers held a 17-2 edge in shots and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
