Women's Soccer Improves to 7-0 in the NAC

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 19, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team improved to 7-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) after Sunday's 3-0 victory over Johnson State.

Colby-Sawyer pushes its overall record to 9-5-1 and is atop the NAC standings with a 7-0 conference record. The Chargers will step out of conference play for the last time this season when they host Worcester State on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Johnson State falls to 7-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the NAC. The Badgers play at Lyndon next Saturday in a regular season finale.

The Chargers wasted no time to get on the board with a goal 2:08 into the first half. Freshman Corrie Hoyt (Lebanon, Conn.) sent a through ball to senior Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.), which led to a break away. Upham then scored her fifth goal of the season into the side corner of the net.

The contest remained 1-0 in favor of Colby-Sawyer into the break.

Upham doubled the Chargers' lead in the 52nd minute with her team leading sixth goal. Sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Upton, Mass.) sent a cross into the box, which was then headed in by Upham.

Sophomore Rachel Quaye (Westminster, Mass.) added a third goal in the 67th minute after she was set up nicely by a through ball from sophomore Maura Kane (Derry, N.H.).

Colby-Sawyer outshot the Badgers 19-6 and had a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalie Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made four saves and earned her seventh shutout in a row. Johnson State keeper senior Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt.) had eight saves in the lost.
