POULTNEY, Vt. - October 14, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team pushed its win streak to five matches with a 6-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at Green Mountain on Tuesday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 7-5-1 overall and remain atop the NAC standings with a 5-0 record. Colby-Sawyer hosts Lyndon on Saturday and Johnson on Sunday. Green Mountain drops to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Colby-Sawyer was quick to get on the scoreboard on a goal in the 2nd minute of play by
Michelle Upham who headed home the visitors' first marker off of a corner kick by
Corrie Hoyt.
The Chargers extended the lead to 2-0 in the seventh minute as
Sarah Little fed a nice pass to
Rachel Quaye, who put her fourth of the year into the back of the Eagles' goal. Less than a minute later the Chargers added another goal on an unassisted strike on Upham's second goal of the game as she took a loose ball and hammered home her shot.
Abby Woods capitalized on a break down the left side to goal as she netted her first goal of the season to give the visitors' a comfortable 4-0 lead at the half.
Green Mountain played tighter defense in the second half despite being fatigued and Eagles' keeper Kim Simonetti made some nice saves to keep the Eagles in the second half.
Kelsey Campbell broke the scoreless half in the 59th minute as she headed home a cross from Hoyt.
Vicky Driscoll capped the scoring on the afternoon with a hard low shot into the right corner of the net for her first of the year.
Karley Hamilton made five stops to earn her fifth straight clean sheet.
