Box Score BANGOR, Maine - January 17, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to Husson University 50-46 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Friday evening.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-6 (4-2 NAC) overall while the Chargers drop to 6-8 (5-2) on the season. Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, Maine) and Rebecca Young (Concord, Vermont) led the charge for the Eagles, with McIntyre tallying 11 points and Young tallying 10, respectively.
For the Chargers,
Jessica Shenkel (Sharon, Massachusetts) led the way with 15 points and five rebounds.
Kelsey Cahill added 10 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals.
BOX SCORE
The first half of play featured several lead changes and hard fought baskets by both teams. McIntyre led the Eagles with 6 points, 3 rebounds and a steal in 10 minutes of action. Shenkel led the Chargers, scoring a game high 9 heading into the break.
The Eagles began to pull away in the second half, leading by as much as 18 points with 6 minutes left, and looked like they would walk away easily with a win. However, the Chargers rallied to pull within 4 points with less than a minute to go. Head Coach Kissy Walker called a timeout to get the team's composure back, and the Eagles managed to hit their free throws after fouls by Colby-Sawyer to put the game out of reach and give them the victory.
Husson continues their double header tomorrow, January, 18th at 3:00 PM in a North Atlantic Conference game against New England College. Colby-Sawyer will travel down to Maine Maritime to take on the Mariners at 3:00 PM as well.
