LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - September 28, 2013 - The Colby Sawyer women's tennis team went to 3-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division after an 8-1 victory at Lyndon on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Hornets drop to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the NEAC.
In first doubles,
Elizabeth Lincoln and
Ashlyn Ramsay beat Kayla Flynn and Olivia Bernard 8-1. The No. 2 doubles team of
Charlotte Horton and
Oxana Tkachenko topped Kelsey Johnson and Alexandria Maynard 8-1. Finally, in third flight doubles the duo of
Ellen Graham and
Conley Dion finished off the sweep by besting Carina Alden and Stephanie Burke 8-2.
In singles action, the Hornets avoided a shutout when Alexa Richard beat
Ziyoda Saidova 8-2 in a pro set in sixth singles.
In all of the other five single matches the Chargers won them convincingly. In first singles, Flynn lost to Lincoln 6-1, 6-1 and in No. 2 singles Bernard fell to Ramsay by a score of 6-0, 6-0. In the third flight, Johnson lost to Horton 6-2, 6-0 before Kelly Butler dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Tkachenko. In fifth singles, Maynard lost 6-0, 6-1 to Graham.
