Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - August 31, 2013 -The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the Bear Invitational hosted by Coast Guard. The Chargers earned a 3-1 win over Eastern Connecticut, but fell to the host Bears 3-1.
COAST GUARD 3, Colby-Sawyer 1 - BOX SCORE
Senior Kesley Deporto had a match-high 21 kills making just one attack error leading Coast Guard to its first win of the season, a 3-1 win over Colby Sawyer in the final match of the day at the Bear Invitational.
Coast Guard (1-2), dropped the first game 25-23 before winning 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 to give head coach Aylene Ilkson her first collegiate win.
Sophomore Maggie Hine had a career-high 40 assists to go with nine digs while sophomore Kelsey Hickle had 15 kills and 12 digs in the win for the Bears. Senior Samantha Marmolejo 24 digs to lead Coast Guard while freshman Miranda Brumbaugh had a match-high four aces in her first collegiate action.
Colby Sawyer (1-2) won the opening set 25-23 as they led by as many as six (19-13), but had to hold off the Bears late.
Coast Guard evened things in the second game jumping out to a 10-4 lead. The Chargers tied it 18-18 before the Bears scored seven of the final eight points.
In a tight third game, the Bears took charge using a 5-1 run turning an 11-11 tie into a 16-12 lead and won 25-21.
The Bears closed out the match in a back-and-forth fourth game by scoring the final ten points turning a 16-15 deficit into the 25-16 win.

Jackie Keating led Colby Sawyer with 13 kills while sophomore
Laura Smolinski had a team-high 37 assists for the Chargers.

Jackie Keating had 14 kills and eight digs leading Colby Sawyer to a 3-1 win over Eastern Connecticut.
The Chargers dropped the opening game 25-18 before winning three straight 25-21, 25-19 and 25-21 for their first win of the season.
The first game was tied 11-11 before Eastern scored nine of the next 11 points for a 20-13 lead en route to the 25-18 win.
Colby Sawyer evened things coming back from an early 11-8 deficit and scoring six of the final nine points for a 25-21 win.
In the third game, the Chargers took control early leading from start to finish for the 25-19 win.
The Chargers closed out the match in the fourth game, once again leading from start to finish. They led 20-13 before ECSU closed to within 23-20 before falling 25-21.

Ally Le-Bruno led Colby Sawyer with 18 digs while sophomore
Laura Smolinski had a match-high 33 assists.
Freshman Adrianna Mihalek had a match-high 18 kills to lead Eastern Connecticut while senior Erynn Miller led the Warriors (1-2) with 21 digs. Junior Jess Patrizi had a team-high 18 assists.
