BEVERLY, Mass. – August 30, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team fell to Endicott, 8-1 in the 2013-14 season opener for both teams, on Friday afternoon at the South Campus Courts.
The Gulls won two out of three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles flights. Endicott has now won five out of their last six matches against Colby-Sawyer, dating back to when the Chargers were members of the CCC. Endicott plays Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm on the road against NEWMAC opponent Wellesley.
Colby-Sawyer (0-1) won the #1 doubles match behind solid play from senior
Elizabeth Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.), taking the match 8-4. The Chargers return to the North Shore on Monday, September 2nd to face-off against Gordon.
Endicott had won the first two doubles matches, an 8-3 victory for sophomores Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) and Savannah Deady (Andover, Mass.) at the #3 position and an 8-4 triumph for junior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) at the #2 position. Endicott held a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
The Gulls did not drop a set in singles play, as Potter (#6), Rhodes (#4), and junior Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) in the #3 singles spot solidified the win by getting Endicott to five points. A 6-1, 6-1 win for sophomore Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) at #5 singles as well as wins for junior Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) and Heacox at the top of the lineup, finished up the match.
