Chargers Advance to NAC Finals with 1-0 Win over Husson

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 5, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team advanced to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) finals for the second straight season with a 1-0 win over Husson in Tuesday's semifinals contest.

The Chargers will host Castleton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The second seed Spartans defeated third seed University of Maine-Farmington, 3-2 on Tuesday.

Colby-Sawyer, the tournament's top seed, improves to 18-3, while the No. 5 seed Eagles of Husson fall to 7-11-2.

Colby-Sawyer senior Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) scored the game's lone goal in the 77th minute as she dribbled the ball to the top of the 18-yard box and ripped a shot that snuck in under the crossbar. The goal, which was Bender's 12th of the season, was set up by junior Sarah Little (Scarborough, Maine).

The Chargers controlled possession throughout and outshot Husson 26-7. The Chargers also held a 13-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Husson had its best scoring in the 71st minute. Sophomore Katie Cyr (Hampden, Maine) gained control of the ball after a scrum in front of the net and took a shot past the Colby-Sawyer keeper. Luckily for the Chargers, sophomore Tallon Tomasi (Williston, Vt.) was up to the task and headed the ball away of danger.

Sophomore goalie Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made three saves in her 15th clean sheet of the season. Husson keeper Jess Poulin (Albion, Maine) kept the visitors in the game with 14 saves.
