NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 5, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team served Castleton its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division loss, 8-1 at Kelsey Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 6-4 overall and 4-0 in NEAC East play, while Castleton falls to 4-8 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
Colby-Sawyer began the afternoon by sweeping doubles play. Senior
Elizabeth Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) did not drop a game in an 8-0 win over Meghan Susslin and Olga McIntyre at No. 1 doubles.
The Colby-Sawyer No. 2 doubles duo of sophomore
Charlotte Horton (South Hamilton, Mass.) and junior
Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine) also swept their match 8-0 over Ruby Bushey and Monika Plante.
The No. 3 doubles team of freshman
Conley Dion (Falmouth, Maine) and junior
Ellen Graham (Newburyport, Mass.) gave the Chargers a 3-0 lead after an 8-2 win over Kaydeen Juaire and Taylor Reynolds.
Lincoln won 6-1, 6-0 at the top flight over Susslin. Ramsay and Horton each won at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively without dropping a game 6-0, 6-0.
Tkachenko also cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Plante at the fourth flight, while Graham earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Juaire at No. 5.
The Spartans came away with a point in the final match of the afternoon at No. 6 singles. Taylor Reynolds defeated
Conley Dion, 6-1, 6-1.
The Chargers will finish the conference regular season at MCLA tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. match, while Castleton hosts Thomas tomorrow at noon in a conference finale.
