Chargers Celebrate Senior Night with 3-1 Win over Johnson & Wales

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 29, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Johnson & Wales, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 26-24, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-18. Prior to the match, Colby-Sawyer's five seniors were honored.

Colby-Sawyer wore pink uniforms to support the efforts of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Chargers improve to 20-9 and has recorded at least 20 wins in 10 of the last 11 seasons. The Wildcats fall to 12-19.

Johnson & Wales came out as the aggressors in the first set and led 13-4 after a kill from sophomore Marissa Bunnewith (Millbury, Mass.). The Chargers slowly chipped away, but faced two Wildcat match points. Colby-Sawyer avoided the set clinching point both times and was able to pull even for the first time in the set at 24-24. The Chargers then scored the next two points off of Wildcat errors to take the first set 26-24.

The second set featured five ties, which occurred early in the frame. With the score tied at 6-6, the Chargers went on a 6-0 run capped by a Wildcat error. The visitors battled back with a 6-1 run of their own to cut the deficit to 13-12. Leading 19-17, Colby-Sawyer scored six of the final eight points to take a 25-19 win.

The third set mirrored the second, but was in favor of the Wildcats on this occasion. Johnson & Wales trailed 9-6, but scored the next seven points to force a Colby-Sawyer timeout. The Chargers were able to knot the game at 15-15, but the visitors finished the set with a 10-4 run for the 25-19 victory.

Colby-Sawyer led the entire fourth set and pushed its lead to seven on several occasions. The Chargers held the Wildcats to -.061 hitting in the set en route to a 25-18 match clinching win.

Senior Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) recorded a match-high 13 kills to lead the Chargers. Senior Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) also reached double figures with 10 kills and added a match best four blocks. Senior Lindsey Raumikaitis (Danville, N.H.) chipped in three kills and a pair of blocks. Senior Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) collected a team best 18 digs, while senior Julia Yee (Quincy, Mass.) added 10 digs.

Senior Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.) and junior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) each recorded seven kills to pace the Wildcats. Drapeau added 13 digs. Senior libero Giselle Cram (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) tallied a match-high 29 digs. Senior setter Kasey Higgins (Wallingford, Conn.) just missed a double-double with 11 assists and eight digs.

Colby-Sawyer travels to Rivier on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. for a match that was originally scheduled for September 7. Johnson & Wales hosts St. Joseph's (Conn.) on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
