Women's Tennis Defeats Lyndon State 8-0 in Conference Opener

NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 8, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team opened their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) schedule with an 8-0 victory over Lyndon State. With the win, the Chargers improve to 1-0 in NEAC play and 3-1overall, while the Hornets fall to 0-1 in the NEAC and 0-2 overall.

The Chargers began the day with a dominating performance in doubles action. Top seeds Claire Toffey and Liz Lincoln earned an 8-1 win over Lyndon's Kayla Flynn and Kelsey Johnson. The No. 2 doubles team of Donna Gordon and Ashlyn Ramsay posted an 8-0 win over Alex Maynard and Olivia Bernard. The Chargers secured the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win by Oxana Tkachenko and Charlotte Horton over Margaret George and Chelsey Watson.

Colby-Sawyer continued to control the match throughout singles play. Ashlyn Ramsay, Charlotte Horton, Claire Toffey, Donna Gordon and Oxana Tkachenko each posted straight sets victories. The No. 1 singles did not finish in the second set giving the Chargers an 8-0 victory in the match.

The Chargers return to action Sunday when they travel to Waterville, Maine to take on Colby College and Thomas College. First serve is at 1:00pm. Lyndon also returns to action Sunday when they travel to Gorham, Maine to take on the University of Southern Maine.
