NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 3, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team played a pair of matches at home on Monday. The Chargers earned a 5-4 win over Nichols in the morning match and completed the 2-0 day with a 5-0 win over Clark in the nightcap. Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-1 this season.

Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) defeated the senior duo of Alexandra Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) 8-5. Sophomore
Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine) and freshman
Charlotte Horton (South Hamilton, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 victory over sophomore Kelsey Peterson (Fairbanks, Alaska) and senior Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) at No. 3 doubles. Nichols No. 1 team comprised of junior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and sophomore Lindsey Benoit (Holden, Mass.) battled by senior
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) and junior Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) 9-8 (7-5).
Dyakiv, Cifone, and McQuiggan earned singles victories for Nichols, while Ramsay, Gordon and Tkachenko won for the Chargers.
In the nightcap, the Chargers swept doubles play. Toffey and Lincoln had an 8-6 victory in the No. 1 slot, while Gordon and Ramsay took care of their opponents 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Tkachenko and Horton also came away with an 8-2 victory at third doubles.
With the sunlight starting to fade, Colby-Sawyer was able to clinch the fourth and fifth points at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Toffey cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth flight, while Tkachenko earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot.
The Chargers' next match will take place on Saturday at home against conference foe Lyndon. First serve is at 1:00 pm.
