NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 23, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team pushed its win streak in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division play to five, after defeating Johnson State 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Chargers remain perfect in conference play at 5-0 and improve to 9-2 overall. Johnson dips to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in NEAC action.
The Colby-Sawyer duo of
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) and Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 win over senior Emily Miller (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Maegan Ploof (St. Albans, Vt.) at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 team of
Donna Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) posted an 8-1 win over freshman Deanna Brandstetter (Newport, Vt.) and junior Kate Murphy (Westfield, Vt.). The Chargers secured the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win by
Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine) and
Charlotte Horton (South Hamilton, Mass.) over Catlyn Hughes (Canterbury, Conn.) and Ace Morrison-Taylor (Colden, N.Y.).
Colby-Sawyer continued to control the match throughout singles play. Liz Lincoln,
Ashlyn Ramsay and
Ellen Graham did not drop a game in their singles matches. Toffey, Tkachenko, and junior
Kathleen Rogers (Falls Village, Conn.) also won in straight sets and did not drop more than one game in each set.
The Chargers will host a NEAC East Division tri-match next Saturday. Colby-Sawyer plays MCLA at 9:30 am followed by Thomas at 3:30 pm. Johnson State travels to Plattsburgh State on Friday for a 3:00 pm contest.
