Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten In NEAC Play

CASTLETON, Vt. - September 22, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play after a 9-0 win over Castleton State College. The Chargers improve to 8-2 overall, while the Spartans fall to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in NEAC play.

The Chargers, who lost to Castleton in the 2011 NEAC East Championship, began the day with an impressive sweep of the doubles action. No. 1 Claire Toffey and Liz Lincoln won 8-1, No. 2 Donna Gordon and Ashlyn Ramsay earned an 8-0 win and No. 3 Charlotte Horton and Oxana Tkachenko completed the sweep with an 8-4 win.

Colby-Sawyer continued its dominance through the singles matches as all six matches were won in straight sets. No. 1 Liz Lincoln, No. 2 Ashlyn Ramsay and No. 5 Donna Gordon each won by scores of 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 Charlotte Horton earned a 6-0, 6-1 win and No. 4 Claire Toffey posted scored of 6-1, 6-1. No. 6 Ellen Graham completed the 9-0 win for the Chargers with a 6-2, 6-3 win

The Chargers return to action Sunday when they host NEAC East foe Johnson State. First serve is set for 1:00pm. Castleton plays Union College next Saturday.
