KEENE, N.H. – September 18, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team defeated the Owls of Keene State 3-0 at Spaulding Gym on Tuesday night. The Chargers last win against the Owls came five years ago to the day on Tuesday, September 18, 2007. Colby-Sawyer won that contest 3-2.
Leading 24-20 in the opening game, the Owls (5-6) couldn't close it out. A service and hitting error enabled the Chargers (4-6) to take the game 27-25.
Trailing 20-15, KSC came back to tie the second game five times before Colby-Sawyer won the last two points on a kill by junior
Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) and a KSC hitting error to win 29-27.
The Chargers rolled to a 25-20 win the third game.
Sophomore
Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.) had 13 kills and a .435 hitting percentage to lead the Chargers. Freshman setter
Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) added 26 assists and three service aces. Sophomore
Sarah Hannon (Pocasett, Mass.) had five service aces and nine digs while junior
Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) finished the match with 13 digs.
Freshman Angela Silveri (Poughquag, N.Y.) led the Owls with 10 kills while sophomore Sammy Dormio (Leesburg, Va.) finished with a game high 16 digs. Freshmen setters Alexis Michal (Windham, N.H.) and Haley Willumsen (Shelter Island, N.Y.) had 13 assists each. Freshman Kaylee Deluga (Barnstable, Mass.) chipped in with nine kills, four digs and five blocks.
Keene State hosts a tri-match with Eastern Conn. (12 p.m.) and Western New England on Saturday (4 p.m.). Colby-Sawyer returns home on Saturday to face Emerson College (11 a.m.) and Southern Vermont College (3 p.m.).
