LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - October 2, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team improved it's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) record to 8-0 with a 7-2 victory over Lyndon on Tuesday at the Dudley Bell tennis center.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 12-2 overall, while the Hornets fall to 1-4 in the NEAC Eastern Division and 1-7 overall.
The Chargers began the day with two doubles victories as top seeds
Claire Toffey and Liz Lincoln earned an 8-2 win over Lyndon's Kayla Flynn and Maria Parr. The No. 2 doubles team of
Donna Gordon and
Kathleen Rogers posted an 8-5 win over Kelsey Johnson and Olivia Bernard.
The Hornet tandem of Margaret George and Alexandria Maynard were awarded a victory in third flight doubles by virtue of a forfeit.
Colby-Sawyer dominated throughout singles play as Lincoln and Toffey defeated Flynn (6-1, 6-0) and Johnson (6-1, 6-1) in the first and second flight. Gordon beat Bernard 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles while
Ellen Graham dispatched Maynard 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 matchup.
Rogers posted a 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory over George in fifth flight singles before Lyndon's Heather Gibson earned a forfeit win in the sixth flight.
Colby-Sawyer returns to the courts Wednesday when they travel to South Portland to face off versus the University of Southern Maine.
