NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 17, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team defeated Castleton 9-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division play on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chargers ran the table in conference play this season, going a perfect 9-0. Colby-Sawyer will host the NEAC East Division tournament as the number one seed on Saturday, October 20. Castleton finishes conference play 6-3, which is good for the second seed in the upcoming tournament. Thomas and Lyndon round out the tournament participants at third and fourth, respectively.
The Colby-Sawyer duo of
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) and Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) cruised to an 8-0 win over sophomore Olga McIntyre (Winhall, Vt.) and sophomore Felicia West (Rutland, Vt.). The No. 2 team of
Donna Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) posted an 8-0 win over senior Chelsea Crehan (Essex, Conn.) and freshman Sara Novenstern (Chappaqua, N.Y.). The Chargers secured the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win by
Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine) and
Charlotte Horton (South Hamilton, Mass.) over Lauren Fedorka (Temple, N.H.) and Meghan Susslin (St. Albans, Vt.).
Colby-Sawyer continued to control the match throughout singles play. Liz Lincoln and
Ashlyn Ramsay did not drop a game in their singles matches. Horton and Gordon also won in straight sets dropping just one and two games, respectively. Toffey was pushed to a tie breaker in the second set and Tkachenko was pushed to one in the first set, but both ended up winning in straight sets.
