Ally Le-Bruno Sets Single Match Dig Record in 3-1 Loss to Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, CONN.- September 1, 2011 -
The Colby-Sawer women's volleyball team fell to Coast Guard, 3-1 in a non-conference season opener for both teams.

Coast Guard won by game scores of 25-17, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-14 to give new head coach Eric Snyder his first win at the Academy.

The Bears scored six of the final seven points in the first game with freshman Kelsey Hickle serving four of those points for the 25-17 win.

Junior Keriann Mason led a balanced Coast Guard attack with ten kills and nine digs. Another freshman, Elise Sako was key in the second game as she served four straight in a 9-2 run turning an 11-11 tied into a 20-13 lead before winning game two, 25-17.

Colby Sawyer scored the final four points to break a 21-21 tie and win the third game, 25-21.
Coast Guard jumped out quickly and pushed the lead to 21-8 in the fourth game before closing out the match with a 25-14 win.

Hickle had a solid collegiate debut as she led the team with five blocks to go with eight kills, 11 digs and two aces.

Colby Sawyer sophomore Ally Le-Bruno set a single-match school record with 44 digs. Sophomore Courtney O'Hara led the Chargers with 11 kills, senior Kristin Sawyer had a team-high 27 assists and sophomore Emilee McBride had four blocks.

Senior Nicole Johnson had eight kills while sophomore Kelsey DePorto added six kills for the Bears.
Junior setter Karen Matic led the way with 50 assists to go with a pair of aces while sophomore Sam Marmolejo had a team-high 19 digs in the win.
