Kristin Sawyer Leads Volleyball to 3-0 Sweep of Johnson & Wales

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 27, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer College volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep against Johnson & Wales in non-conference action on Thursday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-15.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 17-14, while the Wildcats drop to 8-24.

Chargers senior Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) celebrated senior night with a match-high 34 assists. 

Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) who had 13 kills on .375 hitting.  Sophomore
Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass) recorded a match best 20 digs. Freshman Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) hit .417, had six kills and a match-high four blocks.

Johnson & Wales was led by senior Audrey Warren (Haverhill, Mass.). She recorded six kills and added a pair of blocks. Freshman Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) collected five kills, 11 assists and nine digs. Sophomore Courtney Wright (Windham, N.H.) had five kills and 10 digs. Freshman Donna McCain (Corning, N.Y.) led the team with 12 digs.

The match featured just three ties and three lead changes, which all came in the second set. 

The Chargers breezed to a 25-17 set one victory and led as much as nine. Johnson & Wales jumped out to an early lead in the second and led 9-4. Colby-Sawyer battled back and eventually went on top 20-14 before finishing the job at 25-21. The home team led the entire third set from the first serve. The largest margin of the set was the final score of 25-15.

The Chargers will travel to Bridgewater State tomorrow evening for a 7:00pm non-conference tilt.  Johnson & Wales will participate in a tri-match on Saturday. The Wildcats play at St. Joe's (Conn.) and Simmons.
