Volleyball Drop Two With Minnesota Morris and Plymouth State

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 5, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Minnesota Morris and Plymouth State on Sunday afternoon. Senior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) recorded 20 kills and 30 digs to lead the Chargers. 

Match 1 – Minnesota Morris 3, Colby-Sawyer 0 – 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 

The Cougars, led by former Colby-Sawyer Head Coach Chad Braegelmann, defeated the Chargers 3-0 on the first of three matches at the Hogan Sports Center. Minnesota Morris was led by a match-high 11 kills from senior Megan Theis (Shakopee, Minn.). Sophomore Allie Humphrey (Minnetonka, Minn.) was the only other player to record double-figure kills with 10. Sophomore Brita Humphrey (Minnetonka, Minn.) tallied a match-high 17 digs. Senior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) had eight kills and 10 digs for Colby-Sawyer. Freshman Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) registered six kills, 10 digs, an ace and a match-high four blocks. Minnesota Morris improves to 2-3, while the Chargers fall to 0-2. 

Match 2 – Minnesota Morris 3, Plymouth State 0 – 25-9, 25-11, 25-16 

Minnesota Morris earned their second victory of the day with a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers. Freshman Mandy Allman (Nevis, Minn.) had 11 assists and eight digs for the Cougars. Freshman Kaylie Clark (Garden Plain, Kan.) led the team with eight kills and 11 digs. Plymouth State was led by sophomore Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.), who recorded a match-high eight kills. Minnesota Morris evens their season record to 3-3, while the Panthers suffer their first loss dropping to 2-1.
Minnesota Morris returns home for Friday matches with North Central and Mount Marty.

Match 3 – Plymouth State 3, Colby-Sawyer 0 – 25-18, 28-26, 25-18 

After getting swept by Minnesota Morris, Plymouth State took three straight games from the tournament host, Colby-Sawyer. Casey Stoodley led all players with 15 kills and added 21 digs. Senior Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) recorded a double-double with a match-high 33 assists and 11 digs. Colby-Sawyer senior Michelle Doody also had a double-double with a team best 12 kills and 20 digs. Freshman Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) finished the afternoon with 32 digs with 20 against the Panthers and 12 against Minnesota Morris. Junior Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) tallied 27 assists and 11 digs in the loss. Plymouth State improves to 3-1, while the Chargers dip to 0-3.

Colby-Sawyer will play a tri-match with Elms and Smith in Northampton, Mass. on Saturday. Plymouth State returns to action on Friday with a match against Bowdoin.
