Middlebury Serves Colby-Sawyer 3-1 Home Loss

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 28, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team fell to the visiting Panthers of Middlebury, 3-1 in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday night. The Panthers improve to 9-3, while the Chargers fall to 8-6. 

Colby-Sawyer won set one 25-16, but Middlebury took the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-23 to win the match. 

Middlebury was led by freshman Megan Jarchow (Cos Cob, Conn.) and junior Elissa Goeke (Chevy Chase, Md.) who each recorded 10 kills. Goeke, who hit .318, added four solo blocks and two block assists. Junior Jane Handel (Evanston, Ill.) played well in the victory and had 14 digs, seven kills, and three aces. Senior Whitney Bean (Waukee, Iowa) led all players with a .429 hitting percentage on eight kills in 14 attempts. 

Colby-Sawyer was led by 20 kills from reigning The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, senior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.). She also added 13 digs and four aces. Freshman Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) was a force at the net and had four solo blocks and four block assists. TCCC Libero of the Week, freshman Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.), led all players with 21 digs. Senior Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) had eight kills and three block assists. 

Colby-Sawyer travels to Quincy, Mass. on Wednesday for a TCCC tilt with Eastern Nazarene at 7:00 pm. Middlebury will play Colby as part of a quad match held at Bates beginning at 8:00 pm.
