NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 23, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team earned their fourth straight victory to start the season after defeating Lesley, 65-49 on Tuesday evening in New London. The Chargers are 4-0, while the Lynx fall to 0-4.
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first five minutes of the contest with four different players registering a basket. The Chargers held the lead throughout the half and was ahead by as much as 12 midway through the frame. Lesley kept fighting back towards the end of the first 20 minutes and cut their deficit to seven multiple times, but Colby-Sawyer ended on a 6-1 run to lead 40-28 at the break.
The Lynx came out in the second on a 4-0 run and held the Chargers scoreless for nearly four minutes, but Colby-Sawyer responded with a 19-3 run. Lesley did not make a field goal in that 11 minute stretch. Colby-Sawyer finished strong and won the game 65-49.
The Chargers held a 24-2 edge in bench points and scored 26 points on 27 Lynx turnovers.
Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore
Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) who nearly recorded a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Sophomore
Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) added 12 points. Freshman
Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) chipped in eight points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
Lesley senior Brianna Caira (Pelham, N.H.) shot 6-11 from the floor for 14 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Senior Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 18 points. Senior Cassidy Freed (Brattleboro, Vt.) filled the stat sheet with five points, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Colby-Sawyer is off until November 30 when they will travel to Plymouth State for a 6:00 pm tip. Lesley also plays on the 30th against TCCC opponent Eastern Nazarene. Tip is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
