Volleyball Celebrates Senior Night With 3-1 Win Over Western New England

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 19, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team defeated Western New England College, 3-1 on senior night in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match. The Chargers improve to 15-10 overall and 6-2 in TCCC play. The Golden Bears dip to 8-15 overall and 4-3 in the conference. 

Colby-Sawyer took the first set 25-18, but Western New England rebounded with a 25-22 win in the second. Colby-Sawyer won set three, which featured seven ties and five lead changes, 25-23. The Chargers won the match with a 25-16 fourth set victory. 

Colby-Sawyer was led by a match-high 25 kills from reigning TCCC Player of the Week, senior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.). She also added 14 digs. Senior Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) added 12 kills and five block assists. Senior Ashley Finethy (Alton Bay, N.H.) chipped in three kills. Freshman libero Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) had a team-high 25 digs in the win, while junior Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) had a match best 42 assists. 

Western New England received 10 kills apiece from freshman Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and junior Inna Sergeychik (West Springfield, Mass.). Senior Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, N.J.) had a match-high 26 digs. 

Colby-Sawyer will be at Western Connecticut on Friday to play Rivier at 7:30 pm. Western New England returns to the court on Friday with a 7:30 pm tilt with Babson at Wesleyan University.
