Volleyball Comes From Behind to Beat UNE, 3-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine - October 13, 2010 -
Senior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) had two of her match-high 17 kills down the stretch to help Colby-Sawyer College rally from a two-set deficit for a 3-2 victory over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's volleyball action Wednesday evening at the Campus Center.

After dropping the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-23, Colby-Sawyer took the next two (25-19, 25-23) to square the match. The Chargers found themselves in a early hole in the fifth and deciding set but rallied to pull away for a 15-12 triumph.

Doody added four total blocks for the Chargers (11-10, 5-2 TCCC), who snapped a four-match losing skid. Senior Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) recorded a sizzling .619 attack percentage with 14 kills and just one error in 21 attempts. First-year Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) finished with 10 kills and three total blocks.

Junior setter Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) was credited with 47 assists for the Chargers, while first-year libero Ally Le-Bruno (Medfield, Mass.) led the defense with a match-best 38 digs.

Senior Kristen Edwards (Laconia, N.H.) paced the Nor'easters (12-9, 2-3 TCCC) with 14 kills to go with four aces. Sophomore Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 12 kills and four total blocks. First-year Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) also had a strong game up front with a career-high seven total blocks, including three solo.

First-year setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) posted a double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs. She also served up four of UNE's 14 aces.

Colby-Sawyer returns to action Friday with a road match at the University of Maine Farmington (7 p.m.).
