WESTON, Mass. — September 6, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team won its second straight 7-2 decision to start the 2009 season with a victory at Regis on Sunday. The Chargers are 2-0 and remain on the road with a match at Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday, September 8 at 3:30 p.m.
Seniors Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine) and Brittany Mailman (Dreedom, N.H.) earned an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Megan McCarthy (Norfolk, Mass.) and Georgia Cowart (Hopkinton, Mass.).
Sophomore Nikki Humphrey (Little Compton, R.I.) defeated Georgia Cowart 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Katie Terrien (Colchester, Vt.) earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of MJ Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) to lead the Chargers in singles action. Regis forfeited the fifth and sixth positions.
The Pride's Megan McCarthy and Caitlin Fitgerald (Lynn, Mass.) each earned singles victories for the Pride.
