NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 30, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team swept Anna Maria, 3-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Wednesday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-13, 25-12, and 25-9. The Chargers improve to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in TCCC play. Anna Maria falls to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The first set featured five ties and two lead changes, but all the action happened in the early going before the Chargers broke an 8-8 tie with a 7-0 run. Colby-Sawyer finished the set on a 10-5 run to clinch the win. The Chargers broke out to an early lead in set two and did not look back, cruising to a 25-12 victory. The third set started with an 11-2 run by Colby-Sawyer and the Chargers closed the match with a 25-9 final score.
Junior
Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) led all players with 11 kills and hit .364. Junior
Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) hit .417, tallied seven kills and added four blocks. Senior
Megan White (Monroe, Conn.) had a match-high 11 digs to go along with four kills, two aces and two blocks.
Freshman Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded team-highs with three kills and three blocks for Anna Maria. Senior Brittany Langdeau (Wolcott, Conn.) had a team-high seven digs.
Colby-Sawyer hosts a tri-match on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am versus Wentworth. The Chargers then play Gordon at 3:00 pm. Anna Maria also plays a tri-match on Saturday, traveling to Regis with Roger Williams.
