Volleyball Rebounds With a Pair of Wins at the MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - September, 26, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer College volleyball team rebounded to win two convincing matches on day two of the MIT Invitational Tournament. The Chargers began the day with a dominating victory over the Bears of Bridgewater State(3-0, 25-15, 25-16, 25-9).  The team hit a blistering .410 for the match including a error-free third set in which the Chargers hit .590 (10 Kills, 0 Errors, 17 Attempts). The team was led by junior outside Michelle Doody who had 11 kills and Senior outside hitter Megan White who tallied 8 kills. Senior Genny Moore had 31 assists in the victory.

The Chargers continued their dominating play when they defeated Smith College for the second time this season (3-1, 25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18). Colby-Sawyer pounced on the Pioneers early with a 25-17 victory in the first set. The two teams battled back and forth in the second set before the Chargers pulled away for a 25-19 win. Smith jumped out to an early lead in the third set and held off several charges by CSC and eventually pulled ahead for a 25-18 victory. The Chargers rebounded in the fourth set with some precision serving by senior libero Mickey Lapan and went on to win the set 25-18. Colby-Sawyer was once again led by the duo of outside hitters who each earned double-doubles for the match. Junior Michelle Doody had 18 kills and 11 digs and senior Megan White had 10 kills and 12 digs. Senior Genny Moore dished out 37 assists and added 10 digs. Junior middle hitter Stef Turner had 11 kills and hit .500 for the match.

The Chargers return to action Tuesday, when they travel to Middlebury College. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
