NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 19, 2009- Senior
Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) became Colby-Sawyer's women's tennis all-time leader in career victories on Saturday, helping the Chargers to a 5-4 victory over Roger Williams. LaChance has 89 total victories and also ranks first in career doubles wins with 44 and is tied for second with 45 singles victories.
The Chargers got off to a great start taking all three doubles matches off the Hawks. LaChance and teammate
Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) got the team's first victory by an 8-2 margin over Leah Ribchinsky (Ivorytown, Conn.) and Katelin Richard (West Islip, N.Y.). Seniors
Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine) and
Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.) earned a victory at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore
Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) and freshman
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) defeated Paige Cunningham (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.), 8-2.
Mailman, who has four doubles victories this season, now ranks second all-time in career doubles wins with 41 trailing only LaChance.
Francis and LaChance each won their singles matches at the first and second flights, respectively, to give the Chargers the victory. However, the Hawks won the remaining four matches at No. 3 through No. 6 singles.
Colby-Sawyer remains undefeated at 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the TCCC. Roger Williams suffers its first TCCC match and falls to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Colby-Sawyer will play next on Tuesday at defending TCCC Champions Endicott.
