Women's Tennis Cruises Past Gordon 8-1

WENHAM, Mass. - September 16, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory at Gordon on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Chargers' record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in TCCC play. Gordon falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Senior Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.) did not drop a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles in the Chargers victory. Mailman also earned an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles with senior teammate Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine). Francis won her singles match 6-3, 6-0 at the first flight.
Sophomore Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Andrea Metayer at No. 3 singles. The tandem of junior Carolyn Drake (Great River, N.Y.) and sophomore Nikki Humphrey (Little Compton, R.I.) defeated Sarah Emmons and Sarah Pitts 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Junior Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) and freshman Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. White and Toffey also won their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
The Chargers will play their first home match of the season on Saturday, September 19 against Roger Williams at 1:00 p.m.
