Chargers Earn 7-2 Victory over Castleton State to Begin '09 Campaign

CASTLETON, Vt. - September 1, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team opened the 2009 campaign with a 7-2 non-conference victory at Castleton State Tuesday evening. The Chargers will travel to Regis on September 6 for a match at 1:00 p.m.

Multiple Chargers earned a pair of victories on Tuesday en route to the victory. Senior Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) moved into a tie for third on the Colby-Sawyer all-time singles victories list after sweeping Charla Klaas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. LaChance also added to her all-time leading total of doubles victories with an 8-0 win with junior teammate Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) at the No.1 doubles spot.

Senior Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine) won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and teamed with fellow senior Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.) for an 8-3 victory at the second doubles flight.

Freshman Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) began her collegiate career with two victories. She started with an 8-2 win at third doubles with junior teammate Lauren Turenne and followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Drake also won her singles match 6-3, 6-2.
