Duffy Grabs 23 Rebounds in 66-51 Victory Over Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – February 7, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated Salve Regina, 66-51 to take over sole possession of fourth place in the TCCC standings. The Chargers improve to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while the Seahawks dip to 14-7 overall and 6-3 in the TCCC. Colby-Sawyer junior Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-high 23 rebounds. The 23 rebounds ranks as the fourth highest total in a single game in Colby-Sawyer women's basketball history.

Duffy, who had a double-double at half time with 11 points and 15 rebounds, helped lead the Chargers to an important road victory. The threat of senior Kali Coleman's (Portsmouth, N.H.) outside shooting ability stretched the Salve Regina defense, creating space for Duffy in the paint. Coleman knocked down three treys in the first half and finished with five, good for 15 points.

The Seahawks possessed the second best three-point field goal percentage defense in Division III entering Saturday's match-up with the Chargers. However, Colby-Sawyer knocked down 7 of 18 treys for a percentage of 38.9, while shutting out Salve Regina from distance (0-8). Colby-Sawyer, which boasts the fourth best field goal percentage defense in Division III, made a statement at the Rodgers Rec. Center in front of 501 fans by holding the Seahawks to 25% shooting from the floor.

For the Chargers, who held a 55-39 advantage on the glass, had solid contributions from the bench, which scored 24 points. Leading the way was junior Amy Hebert (Keene, N.H.) who scored 11 points and was 8-9 from the free-throw line. Junior Kate Callahan (Bridgton, Maine) was solid in the post recording five points and eight rebounds.

The Seahawks had three players score 14 points a piece including Allegra Lovoy, Erin Phillips and Lindsay Shorey. Olivia Browning had a solid game with seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer will wrap-up a three game road-trip against Gordon on Tuesday, February 10 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
