NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 8, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a 66-48 victory over Castleton State, Tuesday evening. The Chargers improve to 3-4 overall, while the Spartans drop to 3-5.
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead on a layup by senior
Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) and never looked back. Castleton State tied the game at 2-2 and 8-8, but then trailed the rest of the way and as much as 20 towards the end of the contest. Duffy recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer took a 34-25 lead into halftime after holding the Spartans to 30% shooting. The Spartans shortened the lead to six, 10 minutes into the second, but the Chargers pulled away with a 21-9 run to finish the game.
Freshman
Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) registered her third straight double-digit scoring game with 15 points. She also added six rebounds and four assists. Senior
Amy Hebert (Keene, N.H.) contributed 10 points and four assists. Freshman
Sammi Lehr (Cohasset, Mass.) grabbed 10 rebounds for the fifth time this season.
Castleton State was led by senior Katie Hoxsie (Middlebury, Vt.) who scored 13 points and had a game-high five steals. Junior Megan Johnson (Rutland, Vt.) recorded 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Chargers will finish the 2009 portion of their schedule on Thursday with a game at nationally ranked Bowdoin. Castleton plays at Elms on Saturday with a 2:00 pm tip time.
