WESTON, Mass. - October 7, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team earned its eighth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over TCCC opponent Regis College, on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Chargers' record to 6-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in TCCC play. Regis drops to 1-9-1 overall and remains winless in the conference at 0-7.
Sophomore Abby Wills (Uxbridge, Mass.) opened with Colby-Sawyer's first goal in the 29th minute when she broke through the Regis defense and shot past keeper Ashley Hibbard (Marlborough, Mass.).
Freshman Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) replaced Wills following the goal, and quickly began attacking the Regis defense, taking her first shot against Hibbard at 31:48. Hibbard made one of her 12 saves on the attempt by Bauer.
Willis took a team high five shots for the Chargers. As a team, Colby-Sawyer managed 26 shots. She was one of 12 Chargers to attempt shots on the Regis net.
Returning from the intermission, senior Meghan Fligg (Osterville, Mass.) quickly got back to work, opening the second period with the teams second goal at 46:18.
Junior Liz Williams (Norwell, Mass.) took the first shot attempt, which was blocked to the ground by Hibbard. Following the rebound, Fligg managed to gather the ball to her control, and gave Colby-Sawyer the 2-0 lead.
Regis College opened the second half more aggressive than the first period, but only managed four shots. Meghan Roan (Whitman, Mass.) led with three on goal, giving Allie Piper (Barre, V.T.) her three saves for the game and sixth shutout of the season.
Colby-Sawyer hosts Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, October 10 at 3:00pm.
