Volleyball Sweeps Gordon and Wentworth, 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 3, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team swept Gordon and Wentworth, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Junior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) recorded 30 kills to lead all players.
Match 1 - Colby-Sawyer 3, Wentworth 0 – 25-11, 25-20, 25-5
Colby-Sawyer junior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) had a match-high 13 kills and hit .345. Sophomore Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) recorded six kills and hit .385. Senior Genny Moore (Centerville, Mass.) tallied a double-double with a match-high 28 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Julie Bruton (Montgomery, Texas) and freshman Julie Rahilly (Nashua, N.H.) each had four kills to lead the Wentworth offense.
Match 2 – Colby-Sawyer 3, Gordon 0 – 25-12, 25-14, 25-16
Junior Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) connected on 10 of 11 kills for a .909 hitting percentage. This mark is tied for 12th best in hitting percentage in Division III women's volleyball history (minimum 10-14 attempts). Junior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) continued her spectacular day with a match-high 17 kills and hit .533. Senior Kim Shannon (Wallingford, Conn.) contributed five kills and five block assists. Senior Meredith Phipps (Sandy, Utah) led Gordon with five kills and 4.5 blocks.   
Colby-Sawyer travels to Norwich on Wednesday for a 7:00pm match. Wentworth will host TCCC foe the University of New England on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Gordon plays at Regis on Tuesday, also at 7:00pm.
