NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 28, 2009 – The Keene State women's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to six matches with a 3-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer, on Wednesday as the Chargers celebrated senior night. Keene State won by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-14. The Owls improve to 16-15, while the Chargers drop to 17-11.
Colby-Sawyer got off to a good start and won set one 25-22 behind seven kills from junior
Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.), but the Owls kept it close with four kills from sophomore Tiffani Brooks (Salem, Conn.).
The Owls regrouped in set two and beat the Chargers 25-18. Sophomore Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) led Keene State in the set with seven kills. For the Chargers, junior
Ashley Finethy (Alton Bay, N.H.) had three kills.
Keene State continued to roll in set three with an impressive .342 hitting percentage. The team recorded 15 kills and just two errors in the set. Senior Abby Rosen (Hebron, Conn.) had six of her 10 kills in the set to lead the Owls.
The Owls closed the match in set four in convincing fashion beating the Chargers 25-14. Once again the hot hitting of Keene State was too much for the Chargers defense. The Owls hit .379 and only committed one error.
O'Bryant recorded team-highs of 17 kills and 19 digs in the victory for the Owls. Sophomore Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) added 10 kills, while Rosen had a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs for Keene State. Owls' senior setter Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska) registered 40 assists and 12 digs.
The Chargers were led by Doody's match-high 19 kills. She also added 11 digs. Colby-Sawyer senior
Mickey LaPan (Medway, Mass.) had a team-high 18 digs. Senior
Genny Moore (Centerville, Mass.) recorded a match-high 44 assists, while contributing 16 digs. Sophomore
Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) and junior
Stef Turner (Boxborough, Mass.) each added eight kills.
Colby-Sawyer returns to TCCC action on Saturday for their final two regular season matches against Salve Regina and Endicott. Keene State plays at Brandeis on Friday night.
