NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 21, 2009- The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team advanced to the TCCC championship after a hard fought 5-2 victory over the fifth seeded Hawks of Roger Williams, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinal action on Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers will host third seeded Endicott, who upset the second seed Nichols, 5-1 earlier today.
Colby-Sawyer, which improved to 15-1 on the season, trailed 2-1 after the completion of the doubles matches. Senior
Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) and junior
Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) continued their success with an 8-2 victory over Leah Ribchinsky and Katelin Richard for the second consecutive time. The Hawks, however, won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 advantage. Tracey Klein and Amanda Wolfe beat
Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine) and
Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.), 8-5. Katelin Richard and Kristin Dono won a close match at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 over
Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) and
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.).
The Chargers battled back from the deficit and took No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to win the match 5-2.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at the Boss Center at Dartmouth College at 1:00pm. Endicott defeated Colby-Sawyer 5-4 on September 19.
