NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 2, 2009- The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team defeated previously unbeaten Nichols, 8-1 on Friday evening. The win improves the Chargers' record to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the TCCC. Nichols falls to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. Both teams are in a virtual tie atop the conference with Colby-Sawyer holding the tie-breaker.
The Chargers got off to a great start taking all three doubles matches off the Bison. Senior

Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Molly McGuire (East Sandwich, Mass.) and Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.). Seniors
Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine) and
Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.) earned a victory at No. 2 doubles, defeating Alexander Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.), 8-2. Sophomore
Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) and freshman
Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) gave the Chargers a 3-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia) and Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.).
Francis and LaChance each won their singles matches at the first and second flights, respectively, in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. White also breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Balabanova scored the lone point for Nichols with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Toffey. Turenne defeated Miller 6-4, 6-4, while Mailman came back to beat Woodruff 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8.
Colby-Sawyer will host Western New England on Monday at 3:30pm. Nichols hosts Salve Regina on Saturday at noon.
