NEW LONDON, N.H. - January 21, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team are now on a season-high five game winning streak, after a 74-54 win over Curry, Wednesday evening. With the win, the Chargers improved to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in TCCC action. With the loss, the Colonels' drop to 4-12 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Colby-Sawyer junior Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) led all players with 21 points and 15 rebounds, as the Chargers are now 8-1 at home.
In the first half, the Chargers built their lead behind the dominating play of Duffy, who registered her team-leading fourth double-double of the season, only 17 minutes into the game. Junior Kali Coleman (Portsmouth, N.H.) lit it up from downtown, as she netted three of her four three-pointers. Colby-Sawyer took a 41-21 advantage into the locker room.
The Colonels played evenly with the Chargers in the second half, but Colby-Sawyer's first half lead was too much to overcome. The conference's best team defense, held Curry to only 28.6% from the field. Senior Stevi Valle (Wales, Mass.) played well, as she recorded eight points, six rebounds, and six assists. Coleman finished the game with 12 points.
The Colonels had three players score double-digits, as senior tri-captain, Christina Sancinito (Wakefield, Mass.) scored a team-high 13 points and collected six rebounds. Curry's Emma Dickson (North Yarmouth, Maine) scored 11 points, including three three-pointers, along with five rebounds and three steals.
Colby-Sawyer finished their home stand with a perfect 5-0 record. Now the team will travel to Nichols, who is riding a 12 game winning streak. The game versus the Bison will take place on Saturday, January 24, at 3:00 p.m.
