NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 25, 2008 - The Colby-Sawyer Chargers earned a 74-53 victory over Suffolk, on Tuesday night in the Hogan Sports Center. The win pushes Colby-Sawyer's record to 4-1, while Suffolk drops to 3-2. The Chargers were led by junior Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) who scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The first half featured back and forth action for the entire 20 minutes and had four lead changes. Colby-Sawyer held a slim 31-29 lead heading in to the locker room, led by Duffy's 17 first half points. Suffolk senior Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) kept the Rams close with nine points and six rebounds, in the first half. The Chargers shot just 28% from the floor, while Suffolk shot 39% in the first 20 minutes.
The Chargers separated themselves from the Rams with a 17-3 run to start the second half sparked by three three-pointers from senior Kali Coleman (Portsmouth, N.H.). Colby-Sawyer kept the game at a safe defense the rest of the way as the Rams would not get closer than 14 points. Coleman added two more three-pointers and finished the game with 15 points. The Chargers increased their defensive pressure as well, holding Suffolk to 5-25 shooting in the second half.
After Duffy got in foul trouble, early in the second half, senior Kristen Romanko (Mansfield, Mass.) was a dominant force in the post. She was 4-5 from the floor and finished with eight points, three blocks and a career-high 11 rebounds. When Duffy returned, she continued to feast in the paint scoring nine second-half points, finishing with 26. Colby-Sawyer senior Emma Pasquale (Eliot, Maine) also made her presence felt on the offensive and defensive end. She blocked five shots and recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Tracey finished the game with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Rams. Senior Emily Duquette (Harrisville, R.I.) played well for Suffolk, scoring a team-high 12 points.
The Chargers travel to Plymouth State on December 2 with a scheduled start time of 6:00 p.m.
