Cailyn Straubel

On Thursday, Director of Athletics Mitch Capelle announced that Cailyn Straubel will be the next men's and women's volleyball coach at Colby-Sawyer College.

Straubel joins the Chargers after spending the past three seasons at Brandeis University.

"I would like to thank Mitch Capelle for the privilege of leading the Colby-Sawyer Volleyball programs," said Straubel.  "I'm thrilled to be able to hit the ground running with two groups of talented student-athletes who are committed to furthering the successes of the programs, while developing cultures of teamwork and respect. Colby-Sawyer is a special place and I am humbled to be a part of the Charger family."

Straubel brings experience from a pair of New England Division III programs. She was acting head coach at Brandeis University during the Covid-19 pandemic, assuming all head coaching responsibilities during the spring semester.

Prior to being named acting head coach, Straubel was an assistant at Brandeis for three seasons. During the 2018 season her staff was named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year after bringing Brandeis to their best season in school history.

Before coaching in Waltham, Straubel was an assistant at Williams College. With the Ephs, she assisted with practice and player development for the women's team. While in Williamstown, she also was the head coach of the Williams College men's club volleyball team.

"Colby-Sawyer is excited to welcome Cailyn as our next head men's and women's volleyball coach," said Capelle. "Her experience as a successful student-athlete and background working with both men's and women's teams make her a great fit. Our student-athletes will feed off her energy and passion for the sport."

As a four-year starter at Connecticut College, Straubel was named a captain for her junior and senior seasons. In 2012 she helped the Camels finish with their best record in school history, which included the number one seed in the New England regional, a NESCAC regular season Championship, and a visit to the second round of the Division III NCAA tournament.

Straubel graduated Cum Laude with Distinction from Connecticut College with a degree in Human Development. She is currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Sports Management from Southern New Hampshire. Straubel's sister, Rebecca '20, was standout student-athlete for the Chargers volleyball program from 2016-2019.
