Colby-Sawyer junior
Taylor DeSanty, a three-year member of the women's basketball team, had simply one of the best season's ever for a women's basketball player in a Chargers uniform. One of her many highlights throughout the season were her consistent free-throw shooting. Taylor made 89 of 99 (89.9%) to lead all Division III women basketball players in the nation. She is the first women's basketball player to lead the nation in any category and has an impressive career mark of 88%, making 184 of 209.
In addition to her statistical award Taylor's fine season was recognized in many other ways. For her outstanding play, Taylor was named:
-NAC Player of the Year
-NAC 1st Team
-NH D III Player of the Year (second straight year)
-NH D III 1st team (second straight year)
-ECAC D III All New England 2nd Team
-d3hoops.com All Region 3rd Team
-Co MVP of the 2011-12 Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team.
Taylor also earned numerous weekly awards this season, which included multiple NAC Player of the Week awards, an ECAC Player of the Week, a NEWBA Player of the Week, and appeared on the NEWBA Honor Roll several times.
She also set multiple single season records in 2011-12, including points (611), scoring average (20.4), field goals (224), and three-pointers (74), she had a record setting game at Maine-Farmington when she scored a school record 38 points.
Taylor also has climbed up the ranks on some of Colby-Sawyer's career totals lists. She ranks fourth in career points (1296), first in career three-pointers (162), and is tied for fifth in career field goals (475).
While her play on the court was unmatched, her leadership as one of this year's tri-captains was every bit as important to the team's success. Her work ethic and competitiveness set the tone every day in practice and in every game that was played.
“Taylor is a great example of what we as coaches would like all of our athletes to be, an outstanding student, a hard working athlete, and someone that takes pride in whatever it is she does,” said Head Coach
George Martin.
