Two Years of Progress Under Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation Jeanette McKillop
Since arriving at Colby-Sawyer College in June 2024, Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation Jeanette McKillop has focused on strategic growth, student-athlete success, facility enhancements, and strengthening the overall student experience.
Expanding Opportunities for Student-Athletes
One of the most significant accomplishments during McKillop's tenure has been the successful addition of Men's Lacrosse and Softball. These new programs have expanded opportunities for student-athletes, strengthened enrollment efforts, and enhanced Colby-Sawyer's competitive presence within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Prioritizing Student Well-Being
Recognizing that success extends beyond competition, McKillop has emphasized a holistic approach to student-athlete development that prioritizes mental health, personal growth, and leadership. Through enhanced programming and campus partnerships, Charger Athletics has fostered a culture that encourages resilience, self-awareness, and open conversations surrounding mental wellness.
Commitment to Student-Athlete Success
Consistent with the philosophy she outlined upon her arrival, McKillop has remained focused on creating an environment where student-athletes thrive academically, athletically, and personally. New initiatives have included enhanced student-athlete development programming, preseason career services sessions, updated student-athlete handbooks and visitor guides, and increased collaboration across campus to support student success.
- A key component of this effort was the introduction of Ethan Casson '96 (President of the Dallas Mavericks), presents "Beyond the Game." “Beyond the Game” was developed to help student-athletes successfully navigate life after sports by equipping them with the skills, confidence, and perspective needed to translate their athletic experience into meaningful careers. Hosted once each semester, the program features expert-led conversations focused on career readiness, personal development, and practical life skills.
This focus reflects McKillop's belief that athletics should serve as a vehicle for developing not only successful student-athletes, but also confident, resilient, and well-rounded individuals prepared for success after graduation.
Investing in Facilities and the Student-Athlete Experience
Under McKillop's leadership, Colby-Sawyer has made meaningful investments in facilities and technology to enhance the student-athlete and spectator experience.
