Ed McKenna

Director of Rugby and women's head coach Ed McKenna enters his second season after being hired as the interim head coach of the women's rugby program in February of 2020 and promoted to the Director of Rugby and Women's Head Coach at the end of March 2020. 

McKenna joined the Chargers after competing for eleven years with the Bozeman Cutthroat Rugby Club and spending five years as the head coach of the Montana State Women's Rugby Club, which he led to three consecutive 7s national championship events, two DII conference championships and to the DII round of 8 twice, vaulting the team to Division I status. Additionally, while at Montana State, McKenna served as a backs coach for the Montana State men's rugby club, which he helped found; a faculty advisor for both men's and women's lacrosse; a writing instructor in the English department; and as the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct. He has also served in the following capacities: Commissioner, Rocky Mountain Collegiate Rugby's DI and DII women and D1A and DII men; and, member, USA Rugby's Division II Men's and Division I and II Women's Collegiate Competition Committees. He remains in a role with National Collegiate Rugby's DII men's committee and as the Director of College Rugby for NERFU and regularly volunteers at clinics with Northeast Academy and the New England Free Jacks.  He is USAR L200 certified and Scrum Strong accredited.

McKenna received a bachelor's degree from Salve Regina University and a master's degree from Montana State University, and he comes to Colby-Sawyer with exceptional knowledge on student development having worked in higher education for close to fifteen years and completing all of his doctoral coursework toward a degree in Higher Education Administration.
