SOFTBALL FALLS TO NORWICH

Northfield, VT – The Chargers took on the Norwich Cadets on Wednesday for a GNAC doubleheader. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Mallory Blackwell (Fleming Island, FL) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Madison DeCota was the starting pitcher for the Cadets. 

  • In the top of the 1st, DeCota hit an RBI single to put Norwich up 1-0. Ellie LaRoche and Emily Munson both earned RBIs in the inning to give the Cadets a 3-0 lead going into the 2nd inning. 

  • Jessica Zalucki, DeCota, and Charlii Carbajal Sanchez both scored runs for the Cadets in the 2nd inning. 

  • Kyla Angell (North Providence, RI) hit an RBI double into left field to score Blackwell for Colby-Sawyer. 

  • The Cadets scored two runs in the 5th inning. The Cadets won the game 10-1. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Blackwell pitched the complete game for the Chargers. 

  • Angell had two hits on the day. Kaylee Scott (Virginia Beach, VA) and Lena Rodrigues (Belmont, NH) both recorded hits in game 1. 

  • Carbajal Sanchez was 4-4 from the plate for the Cadets. 

  • Angell had one stolen base in game 1. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Emma Baker (Seekonk, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Delia Mannion was the starting pitcher for the Cadets. 

  • The Chargers started the game off quick, as Julia Hoag (Merrimack, NH) and Blackwell each scored runs for Colby-Sawyer in the 1st inning. Scott hit an RBI single to right field to score Larissa Daigle (Fort Kent, ME). The Chargers led 3-0 after the 1st inning. 

  • In the 3rd inning, Zalucki hit an RBI single, and DeCota hit a 2 RBI triple for the Cadets. Courtney Thomas hit an RBI double to give the Cadets a 4-3 lead. 

  • Daigle hit an RBI single into left field in the 6th to tie the game up at 4-4. 

  • DeCota scored a Cadet run in the 7th inning. The Cadets won the game 5-4. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Baker pitched the complete game for the Chargers and pitched a season-high 7.0 innings. 

  • Baker and Blackwell each had two hits in game 2. 

  • DeCota was 3-4 from the plate for the Cadets. 

  • The Chargers combined for seven hits in game 2. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will play against Albertus Magnus College on Saturday for a doubleheader, with the first game starting at 12pm.
