SOFTBALL TAKES ON MONKS ON THE ROAD

Standish, ME – The Chargers traveled to Maine on Sunday to take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a GNAC doubleheader. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Mallory Blackwell (Fleming Island, FL) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Miranda Northrup was the starting pitcher for the Monks. 

  • The Chargers scored first, as Kyla Angell (North Providence, RI) stepped up to the plate with Blackwell at second base. Angell hit an RBI single to score Blackwell for the first run of the game. 

  • Anna Gilbert singled into center field for the Monks in the 2nd inning. Gilbert's single scored two runs for the hosts. In the 3rd, Chantelle Bouchard of the Monks scored. Later in the inning, Makayla Quintal hit an RBI single to give the Monks a 5-1 lead. 

  • Bouchard hit a three-run home run in the 4th, and the Monks scored one run in the 5th inning. The Monks won the first game of the doubleheader 9-1. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Blackwell pitched the whole game for the Chargers. 

  • Blackwell and Angell both got hits for the Chargers. 

  • Quintal was 3-3 from the plate in game 1 for the Monks. 

  • The Chargers combined for four assists in the game. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Emma Baker (Seekonk, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Olivia Thomas was the starting pitcher for the Monks. 

  • With runners on second and third base, Kaylee Scott (Virginia Beach, VA) hit a single to score Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, NY) and Angell for Colby-Sawyer in the 1st inning. 

  • Scott hit another single in the 3rd inning, this time to bring Blackwell into home plate for the Chargers. Abbie Green-Sermak hit an RBI single for the Monks in the 3rd. 

  • Larissa Daigle (Fort Kent, ME) hit a Charger RBI single in the 4th inning, as the Chargers led 4-1 after four innings. 

  • Jaylah Trottier earned an RBI for the Monks in the 5th. The Monks scored four more runs in the inning. In the 6th inning, Kiera Gabric earned a Monks RBI. The Monks won the second game of the doubleheader 7-4. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Baker pitched the whole game for the Chargers. 

  • Kaylee Scott was 2-3 from the plate and earned a season-high three RBIs. Blackwell, Angell, Mikayla Creighton (Pepperell, MA), and Daigle all had hits in the game. 

  • Green-Sermak was 2-2 from the plate for the Monks in game 2. 

  • The Chargers combined for six assists. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will return to action on Saturday when they host a doubleheader against Emmanuel College, with the first game set to start at 12pm.
