NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer Men's Lacrosse team kicked off their program's inaugural season Tuesday afternoon as they played host to the New England College Pilgrims. The Chargers came out to a crowd of over 300, marking a historic moment at the school.
Rapid Recap:
- Led by Graduate Student, Nathan Marquis (Weare, N.H.) the Chargers defense was tested early with multiple stops to start the game. Maquis would cause the programs first turnover of the game as well as pick up the programs first ground ball. The Chargers First Year goalkeeper, Jackson Cleveland (Falmouth, Maine) would pick up his first collegiate save in the first minute of a shot by Pilgrims, Matt O'Rourke.
- The Chargers defense would hold their ground throughout the game, making multiple stops to try and slow the Pilgrims offense. Colby-Sawyer would secure multiple clears in first half, but were met by the New England College defense on the attack.
- Late in the fourth quarter, James Masterson (North Kingstown, R.I.) would come close to scoring the programs first goal on a tough shot saved by Nate Finn in net.
Inside the Numbers:
- Marquis would lead the team in ground balls, grabbing 5 while causing 5 turnovers. First Year, Fallou Mbengue (Glen Allen, VA) would follow with 3 ground balls while adding 2 caused turnovers. The Chargers would grab a total of 25 ground balls and cause 18 turnovers.
- Cleveland would make 15 saves in his first collegiate start in net.
