CHARGERS DROP HOME OPENER AGAINST TERRIERS

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team held their home opener on Saturday after as they hosted the Terriers of Thomas College in a hard fought battle where the Chargers would fall 2-0.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would face some pressure early on as the Terriers would try and strike first in this one. Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) and the Chargers defense were holding their own, keeping the Terriers out of net. Blashock would record 8 saves in the first quarter alone, just three shy of her career high. The Chargers would also have a strong effort on a defensive save from Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.)
  • The Terriers would break the 0-0 tie in the second quarter on a shot by Kara Richards that just found it's way over Blashock's pads. The Chargers would get another defensive save from Claire Stroshine (Keene, N.H.). The Terriers added another goal before the half by Caroline Hendrickson assisted by Samantha Thebarge.
  • The Chargers would add some pressure in the end with a couple shots, and a penalty corner that just barely got stopped by the Terriers to end the game.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Ashlee Blashock would set a new career high in net for saves as she picked up 18, smashing her previous high by seven.
  • The Chargers totaled two defensive saves by Ponzini and Stroshine to keep the Chargers in the game.
